Dr. Frédérique Bailliard

Dr. Frédérique Bailliard is a pediatric cardiologist specializing in the diagnosis and management of congenital heart disease in children and young adults. Born and initially raised in France, Dr. Bailliard completed her undergraduate education at Duke University and medical school education at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She completed general pediatric training at the North Carolina Children’s Hospital, pediatric cardiology fellowship training at Northwestern University’s Children’s Memorial Hospital (now Lurie Children’s Hospital) in Chicago and finally pediatric cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) training at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children in London, UK.

Dr. Bailliard joined the faculty of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in 2007 where she was appointed Director of Pediatric Cardiac Imaging and Director of the Children’s Intermediate Cardiac Care Unit. During her tenure at the North Carolina Children’s Hospital, she spent much of her time clinically responsible for the inpatient cardiac service as well as for the management of the Children’s Intermediate Cardiac Care Unit. She participated in quality measure improvements through the design of AHRQ initiatives (http://www.ahrq.gov). As Director of Cardiac Imaging, she converted the existing echocardiography laboratory into a state of the art digital laboratory and led continuing education for the UNC team of pediatric cardiac sonographers. Finally, she led the congenital heart disease curriculum for both medical students at the UNC-CH School of Medicine and for the pediatric residency program.

Recruited by Duke University for her expertise in pediatric cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, skills in delivery of inpatient cardiac care and her work with implementing patient safety algorithms, she was appointed to the faculty of Duke University Medical Center and the Duke Children’s Heart Center from 2010 to 2011.

Throughout her US academic appointments, Dr. Bailliard has maintained international collaborations in the field of pediatric cardiology. Her international experience combined with her multi-faceted involvement in the delivery of care to patients with congenital heart disease provide an innovative approach to her management and treatment of children with heart disease.
